Concept of Development

Among all forest ecosystems, tropical rainforests support the greatest diversity of living organisms on Earth. The rainforests of Southeast Asia, including Malaysia, are believed to be among the oldest and most biologically diverse in the world.

Malaysia’s tropical rainforests are among the oldest and most biodiverse ecosystems on the planet. Covering more than half of the country’s land area, they are home to thousands of unique plant and animal species, earning Malaysia recognition as one of the world’s megadiverse countries.

Malaysia is blessed with several significant tropical rainforest regions, including Taman Negara in Peninsular Malaysia, the Royal Belum Rainforest, and the Danum Valley in Sabah. Many of these natural treasures have received international recognition, including UNESCO World Heritage Site status for Kinabalu National Park, Mulu National Park, and Niah National Park. In addition, the Mossy Forest has been recognised by Lonely Planet as one of the most Instagrammable forests in the world. Other notable rainforest destinations include the Maliau Basin, often referred to as “The Lost World” due to its pristine and untouched ecosystem, and Bako National Park, the first national park established in Sarawak.

In conjunction with the celebration of “Visit Malaysia 2026”, Malaysia is promoting its “Surreal Experiences” tourism campaign, which emphasises sustainable tourism and the preservation of the country’s pristine rainforests, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking coastlines for future generations. In support of this vision and in celebration of the upcoming World Rainforest Day, Tomei is introducing the MY Flora Gold Coins to raise awareness of conservation efforts while celebrating Malaysia’s rich natural heritage.

Towards a Better Future

Tropical forests are not just home to plants and animals but also to people. For many indigenous peoples and local communities, forests provide essential resources, including food, shelter, medicine, and materials for daily living. Millions of people depend on tropical forests, either directly or indirectly, for their livelihoods.

Since the first collaboration between Tomei and WWF-Malaysia in 2022, both organisations have shared a strong commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development. In 2026, both parties are taking another meaningful step forward through the introduction of the “Malaysian Flora Collectible Gold Coins Set” to further advance their environmental conservation initiatives.

The launch marks Tomei’s second conservation-themed collaboration with WWF-Malaysia, following the introduction of the “Limited Edition Gold Coins Collection in Commemoration with WWF-Malaysia 50th Anniversary” in 2022. While the previous collection highlighted endangered wildlife, the MY Flora Gold Coins extend the conservation narrative from fauna to flora, while emphasising the importance of protecting Malaysia’s tropical rainforests and botanical heritage.

Under the Tomei CARE Fund Support Campaign 2026, 2% of the retail price from every MY Flora Gold Coins sold will be channelled into the Tomei CARE Fund and contributed to WWF-Malaysia to support nature conservation initiatives and environmental sustainability efforts.

Hutan hujan tropika merupakan ekosistem yang menampung kepelbagaian hidupan paling tinggi di dunia. Di Asia Tenggara, termasuk Malaysia, hutan hujan ini dipercayai antara yang tertua dan paling kaya dengan biodiversiti.  

Hutan hujan tropika Malaysia meliputi lebih separuh daripada keluasan tanah negara dan menjadi habitat kepada ribuan spesies tumbuhan serta haiwan unik. Kepelbagaian ini menjadikan Malaysia diiktiraf sebagai salah satu negara megabiodiversiti dunia.  

Antara kawasan hutan hujan utama di Malaysia ialah Taman Negara di Semenanjung Malaysia, Hutan Royal Belum, dan Lembah Danum di Sabah. Beberapa khazanah semula jadi negara turut menerima pengiktirafan antarabangsa, termasuk status Tapak Warisan Dunia UNESCO bagi Taman Kinabalu, Taman Negara Mulu, dan Taman Negara Niah. Hutan Berkabus pula diiktiraf oleh Lonely Planet sebagai salah satu hutan paling menarik untuk dikongsi di media sosial. Perlindungan hutan hujan Malaysia merupakan tanggungjawab bersama seluruh rakyat Malaysia, malah juga individu di seluruh dunia yang prihatin terhadap masa depan bumi kita. Sebagai sebuah syarikat yang telah berkembang seiring dengan negara selama lebih setengah abad, Tomei mengiktiraf bahawa Malaysia telah menjadi asas kepada kejayaannya. Sejak kerjasama pertama antara Tomei dan WWF-Malaysia pada tahun 2022, kedua-dua organisasi telah berkongsi komitmen yang teguh terhadap pemuliharaan alam sekitar dan pembangunan lestari. Pelancaran ini menandakan kerjasama kali kedua bertemakan pemuliharaan antara Tomei dan WWF-Malaysia, selepas pengenalan “Koleksi Syiling Emas Edisi Terhad Sempena Ulang Tahun ke-50 WWF-Malaysia” pada tahun 2022. Jika koleksi terdahulu menonjolkan hidupan liar terancam, MY Flora Gold Coins pula memperluas usaha pemuliharaan daripada fokus kepada fauna kepada flora, sambil menekankan kepentingan melindungi hutan hujan tropika serta warisan botani Malaysia.

销售所得2%捐助保育工作

2. First and foremost, ladies and gentlemen, thank you for joining us today for the grand launch of the prestigious “Malaysian Flora Collectible Gold Coins Collection” and the “Tomei CARE Fund Support Campaign 2026”, or Tomei Cares About Rejuvenation of Environment.

Today marks another meaningful milestone in Tomei’s continued commitment towards environmental conservation and our ongoing collaboration with WWF-Malaysia. More importantly, it represents our shared belief that businesses can play a meaningful role in creating positive and lasting change for our communities, our environment and future generations.

3. At Tomei, we strive not only to achieve continued success and longterm relevance, but also to create a lasting, positive impact on society. We believe that business growth and corporate responsibility should go hand in hand.

The Tomei CARE project was first initiated in 2022 with the aim of raising awareness and generating support for environmental conservation. Following our previous collection, which highlighted endangered wildlife, this year’s MY Flora Gold Coins extend our conservation story from fauna to flora, placing the spotlight on another equally important part of Malaysia’s natural heritage — our tropical rainforests and the remarkable plant species they nurture.

Through this collection, we celebrate four iconic Malaysian botanical treasures: the Hibiscus, Slipper Orchid, Pitcher Plant and Rafflesia.

Each of these remarkable species represents the extraordinary richness of Malaysia’s biodiversity and reminds us of the natural treasures that exist within our tropical rainforest ecosystems.

5. These flowers and plants are more than beautiful representations of our natural heritage. They reflect the vibrancy, uniqueness and diversity of our nation.

Their distinctive forms, intricate patterns and enduring beauty have inspired generations and hold cultural and symbolic significance across Malaysia’s diverse communities. By transforming these botanical treasures into collectible gold coins, we hope to create a tangible connection between Malaysia’s natural heritage and our jewellery heritage.

In doing so, we hope that the collection will not only appeal to our long-standing customers and collectors, but also inspire a younger generation to discover, appreciate and take greater interest in Malaysia’s extraordinary biodiversity.

6. However, behind the beauty of these remarkable species lies a more serious message.

Malaysia’s tropical rainforests are facing increasing pressure from deforestation, habitat loss and environmental degradation. Many species also remain vulnerable outside protected and conserved areas. At the same time, climate change and increasingly unpredictable weather patterns are placing additional pressure on fragile ecosystems.

The survival of our iconic flora is therefore closely connected to the protection and preservation of the ecosystems in which they exist.

This is why conservation matters. Protecting Malaysia’s flora is not simply about preserving individual species; it is about safeguarding the forests, habitats and ecosystems that sustain countless forms of life — including our own.

7. Distinguished ladies and gentlemen, the Malaysian Flora Collectible Gold Coins have therefore been created with a purpose that goes beyond being a precious collectible.

Under the Tomei CARE Fund Support Campaign 2026, 2% of the retail price from every MY Flora Gold Coins sold will be channelled into the Tomei CARE Fund, from the launch of this campaign until its conclusion in June 2027, or earlier upon the complete sell-out of all 800 sets.

Upon completion of the campaign, Tomei will formally hand over the total contribution accumulated in the Tomei CARE Fund to WWFMalaysia, in support of its environmental conservation efforts.

We are committed to raising a minimum of RM70,000 through this campaign, and we are confident that the total contribution will exceed RM100,000.

Through this collaboration, we hope to empower consumers to make a meaningful contribution to conservation while also owning a valuable and purposeful collectible — demonstrating that every purchase can become a small but meaningful step towards protecting our natural heritage.

8. Sustainability has also been considered throughout the development of this collection. The gold coins are produced using recycled gold sourced from traded-in gold, giving existing precious metal a new life while reducing the need for newly mined gold.

In addition, we have made conscious efforts to prioritize environmentally responsible materials throughout the packaging and printed materials, including the use of paper certified under the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody standards, wherever reasonably practicable.

9. Tomei has also continued to fulfil our environmental responsibilities by promoting lower-carbon-footprint practices and encouraging more sustainable consumption.

One example is our gold trade-in programme, which encourages customers to recycle their pre-loved gold jewellery. Through this initiative, used gold can be traded in and transformed into new pieces of jewellery, helping to extend the life cycle of precious metals and reduce the environmental impacts associated with new gold extraction.

We have also introduced various “go green” initiatives throughout our business and marketing activities, including our card-less jewellery membership scheme and paperless initiatives such as online registration, e-vouchers and our e-magazine.

Together with the adoption of digital and emerging technologies, these initiatives allow us to serve our customers more efficiently while reducing our reliance on paper and other physical resources.

10. Ladies and gentlemen, already a household name for more than 58 years, Tomei is privileged to have earned the trust and support of generations of Malaysians.

With this privilege comes a responsibility — to ensure that our heritage continues to evolve with the times and that our business creates value not only for our customers and stakeholders, but also for society and the environment.
