Si Dian Jin is a cherished tradition originating from the Teochew community in Chao Shan region of Guangdong, dating back several centuries. During the traditional Guo Da Li ceremony, the bride is presented with four essential gold jewellery pieces—a necklace, bracelet, ring, and earrings—which symbolise blessings, prosperity, and a warm welcome into her new family. The Chinese character for “gold” (金) is said to resemble the gracefully curved rooftops typical of Teochew architecture, reinforcing the idea of shelter and care extended to the bride.

Although Si Dian Jin began as a Teochew custom, it has since been adopted by various Chinese communities, each with their own variations in the number and types of pieces gifted. Regardless of these differences, the fundamental meaning remains the same: a heartfelt expression of love, respect, and commitment from the groom’s family to the bride. For many couples, Si Dian Jin is more than just wedding jewellery; it is a lasting symbol of their union and shared journey.

Traditionally, Si Dian Jin was worn exclusively on the wedding day and carefully stored afterward. Due to its weight and value, it was rarely worn again and often kept as a cherished family heirloom. However, modern brides now favor contemporary and versatile designs that can be worn beyond the wedding—pieces suited for everyday life and a variety of occasions. Since every bride wants to look her best on her special day, choosing jewellery that complements the wedding dress, hairstyle, and makeup is essential. Today, Si Dian Jin blends heritage artistry with modern versatility, crafting jewellery that fits seamlessly into both special moments and daily life.

Yellow gold, in both 916 and 999 purities, remains the most popular choice due to its enduring value and status as a cherished family heirloom. However, white and rose gold Si Dian Jin sets have become increasingly common. Modern designs often incorporate pearls and various gemstones, adding vibrant pops of color to traditional gold. These contemporary styles better reflect the bride’s personal taste and are more suitable for everyday wear.
